Strength After Breast Cancer
The Strength After Breast Cancer Program is a 1:1 evidence-based rehabilitative 4–6-week exercise program for breast cancer survivors who have or are at risk of developing lymphedema. The program will be offered by our very own Grace Chen, OT, CLT.
This weightlifting intervention decreases lymphedema exacerbations, decreases the onset of lymphedema with axillary lymph node dissection and helps to improve body composition, body image, and upper body symptoms. Additionally, it prevents the decline in physical function that can occur in breast cancer survivors.
Research on the Strength ABCs program has shown that benefits of participation include:
50% reduced likelihood of lymphedema flare-ups
70% reduced likelihood of lymphedema onset among women with 5+ LN removed
Improved strength, energy, body image
Reduced body fat & prevent decline in physical function
